Lisa M. Rimsza, MD, serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology
and Laboratory Medicine at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson, Arizona and as a
practicing hematopathologist at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson. With a
strong connection to UArizona, Dr. Rimsza completed her MD and pathology residency
at the College of Medicine – Tucson after earning her bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy
from the UArizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Rimsza was a professor of laboratory medicine and
pathology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where she directed the Molecular Diagnostic
Arizona Laboratory and held the Getz Family Research Professorship. She is widely
recognized for her work in lymphoma biology and her translational research that has led
to the development of clinical assays, including the patented Lymph2Cx, for accurate
lymphoma subtyping.

With over 200 peer-reviewed publications and six patents, Dr. Rimsza has maintained an
NIH-funded laboratory for over 25 years. Her laboratory focuses on assay development,
tumor genomics, functional studies, biobanking, and support of clinical trials. Dr. Rimsza
has been instrumental in translating these assays from initial development and patenting
stages to laboratory-developed tests and, ultimately, to licensing and FDA registrational
studies, significantly advancing clinical capabilities in lymphoma subtyping. A life-long
educator, Dr. Rimsza has mentored numerous colleagues, residents, fellows, and
medical students, inspiring the next generation of bioscience researchers and clinicians.
