Dr. Laurence de Leval is a full Professor of Pathology and Director of the Institute of Pathology at the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland. She received her medical degree from the University of Liège, Belgium, where she trained in pathology and obtained a PhD in experimental pathology. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in hematopathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston. She was previously appointed as an associate pathologist at the University Hospital of Liège and as senior researcher for the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research.

Dr. de Leval is an internationally recognized expert in hematopathology. Her research on non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma was awarded the InBev-Baillet Latour Prize for Clinical Research in 2009 and she received the Benjamin Castleman Award from the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) in 2008 for her discovery of the follicular helper T-cell (TFH) derivation of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. Her current research focuses on exploring the molecular pathogenesis of T and NK cell-derived malignancies and the identification and validation of diagnostic biomarkers in lymphomas.

She authored more than 370 scientific publications and several chapters in reference textbooks in pathology and hematology.

Dr. de Leval is the Pathology Chair of the LYSA (LYmphoma Study Association) T-cell lymphoma Working Group and a reference pathologist for clinical trials. She is a member of several national and international scientific societies, an elected member of the International Lymphoma Study Group and a corresponding member of the Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine. She was an editor of the International Consensus Classification of Myeloid and Lymphoid Neoplasms textbook and is member of the steering committee for the Classification Advancement Meeting intended to set the grounds for the 6th Edition of the WHO classification of Hematological Neoplasms.
