Dr. Juan Carlos Roa is a pathologist with specialized training in molecular biology and molecular oncology. He is a Full Professor and Director of the Division of Pathology, Clinical Laboratory, and Imaging at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

He has led numerous national and international research projects in surgical pathology and molecular oncology, with over 300 scientific publications and more than 600 conference presentations. He is the author of the chapters on gallbladder cancer in the 2019 and 2025 editions of the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours.

He has trained more than 20 postgraduate researchers (PhD and postdoctoral fellows) and currently directs the Institutional Biobank at PUC. In addition, he is general Secretary  of the Latin American Society of Pathology and the chilean Society of pathology  and is widely recognized for his  contributions to gallbladder cancer research.
